OpenDraft Documentation

Everything you need to know about using OpenDraft to generate research papers.

OpenDraft is an open-source agent system that researches and writes papers with verified citations. Give it one topic line; 19 specialized agents search Crossref, OpenAlex and Semantic Scholar, outline, write, check citations and export a research paper, literature review or thesis draft to PDF, Word or LaTeX.

A source is kept only if its DOI is held by at least two of Crossref, OpenAlex and Semantic Scholar. That proves the cited work exists and is indexed; it does not prove the work supports the sentence, so review every draft before you use it.

It runs with your own Gemini, OpenAI or Claude API key (about $0.35 with Gemini Flash to about $3 with Claude Opus per draft, 10 to 20 minutes), or as a skill inside Claude Code or Codex with no key.

Quick Start

Get up and running in under 5 minutes:

pip install opendraft
opendraft setup # enter your model API key
opendraft "Your research topic"

Or as a skill in Claude Code or Codex:

npx skills add federicodeponte/opendraft --skill autonomous-research

One-line installer for macOS and Linux: curl -sL opendraft.xyz/install | bash
